This week I'm attending the Adaptive Path Workshop in Amsterdam (thanks to Anu: www.trignos.com).
So far I'm quite enjoying myself. Lots of very nice & talented people from all parts of Europe. And of course it's great to be out of the house (without children in tow! :-)
Yesterday's session was on Design Strategy by Brendon Schauer. I vaguely remember most of this stuff from my time at Nortel's Design Interpretive, but I hadn't been using it much lately (shame on me!). I should really apply this much more and make sure to properly define scope and focus of my projects!
Today, Todd Wilkens talked about Design Research. Not my main focus, but still very interesting. I shall even more explicitly work towards empathy with users (and people in general) in the future. Amazing, though, that the majority of attendees were still not familiar with Ethnographic Research!!?!
Todd also pushed the mind shift from task-modeling to understanding motivation & meaning (see picture). Shame there was not more time to explore this further (and how we can integrate it more explicitly into the design process). Definitely one to watch!!
